What does page limits mean for a Facebook page?

  • May be admins of your page do not have authentic Facebook profiles. As per Facebook Community Standards, creating a second or duplicate profile is not allowed. And if you do so, Facebook considers it as an unauthentic profile. You need to assure all admins of the page use their real name.
  • The page admin may be violating Facebook regulations. You need to keep in check the admin’s activity on the page, whether they are following the rules or not. If you find any violations, you can change the role of the person or remove from the role.
  • The page name may be misleading. Try your best to keep the name as relevant as possible. The name should reflect the page content, and your followers should not find it misleading. There might be the possibility that your followers can report your page to Facebook for misleading them.
  • Your page may consist of misleading content. Page representation needs to be in line with the Community Standards of Facebook. To avail popularity or overnight engagement, any discrepancies with the content of the page will result in posing limits to your page by Facebook.
  • Your page may be posting content against hate speech policies imposed by Facebook. Facebook stands strong against hateful content. This not only creates intimidation on the page but also invites real-life violence. Any direct attack on ethnicity, religious affiliation, national origin, race, caste, sexual orientation, disease, disability, and gender identity comes under the Hate Speech Policy of Facebook.
  • Your page may be violating the ad policy of Facebook. The ad policy guides on the content an ad can have. After the repeated violation of this, Facebook will disable your ad account, and the page will be turned down.

What do you need to avoid during changing the page name?

  • Abusive terms or phrases.
  • Don’t use the term ‘Official’ if your page does not fall under official representation of a place, public figure, and brand.
  • Unusual capitalization or all letters in capitals except acronyms. (For example- tHe coffee Store or THE COFFEE STORE).
  • Undesired punctuation usage or symbol use.
  • Slogans or descriptions in the page name. Adding these may lead to rejection of the name change request. However, you can add that in the ‘About’ section of the page.
  • No changes in the term “Facebook”.

In addition to this, only the use of generic words is not allowed in the page name.

  • You can’t create a name with generic words and proper nouns only, like ‘Coffee’. You may use ‘The Coffee Corner’.
  • You can’t name your page with a generic location, (example- ‘London’ or ‘Britain’). You can use the geographic location name along with specific terms as ‘Central Park London’ or ‘Officer’s Colony London’.

What is the character limit for a Facebook page name?

There is a limit of 75 characters to create your page name. It is plenty for creating a name. It is advisable to keep the name short, relevant and easy to remember.

How much time will it take for the approval of your request?

Once you save the change and click the Request Change, an auto-generated message prompts up. The prompt message suggests that the review will take up to three days for the request approval. According to the feedback, it takes less time than this in general.

How frequent can one go for the name change?

One can request a name change after seven days of the last request. Once you have requested a name change, it will get approval from Facebook authorities. From the date of approval, you have to wait for the next seven days to request a new name.

Also, if you are asking for frequent name changes, the possibility is if Facebook identifies your page as spam, then the page could be turned down. You need to be careful about this.

What changes and what remains the same after requesting a name change?

The Request Change will bring changes in page name only. The page URL (web address or username) will remain the same. Facebook generates the page URL at the time when you first create your page.

If you request for the name change in future, there will be no changes in the URL. However, you can change it if you want to. For this, you have to follow Facebook guidelines.

How to fix it, if you are facing trouble with the name change?

  • Wait to change the name. If you have recently changed the name, you have to wait for the next seven days before trying again. This is one of the most common reasons for the rejection of Request Change.
  • See for your Page Role. If you do not have the Page Role that allows you to Request Change, you first avail the access and then try.
  • If your page is running ads, then contacting Facebook ad team can resolve your issue. If there are issues because of ad policies, the team will check those and guide you further.
  • Check your page content. Bring it in alignment with the Facebook Community Standards.
  • If you find any page limits for your page, write to Facebook to resolve the same.
  • Select the page name, keeping all the points as discussed.
  • Try changing your Facebook page category. If you don't find an edit option for a request change on your page, you can give it a try. Change the category of your page and proceed for Save Changes. This may lead to an Edit option to appear on your page. Now, you can follow the steps for Request Change of your Facebook page name.

Note: If you have a verified Facebook page, changing the category may lead you to lose the verification. Keep that in mind before attempting this option.

  • When you are changing the page name, you need to give the reason. There are options in the form that you need to fill. For changing the page name, if you select 'the change in the business name' as a reason, you need to present documentation verifying the same. Business cards, logos and website links are not accepted.

There is an option as ‘Other’, you can select this. Then you can explain your reason in the text section. The good reasons can be one of these - need to correct the spelling of the page name or to match the page name best to the website or the business name. As per feedback, these reasons get easy approvals.

  • Bringing changes in parts can also fix the issue. See an example, if your page name is ‘National Book Corner’, and you want to change it to ‘Book Store For You’. In your first try, change one word, like from National Book Corner to National Book Store. In your next attempt, go for 'Book Store For You'. See how it works for your page, and then make changes. Make sure to give a gap of seven days between two consecutive Request Changes.

You need the approval from the team to change your Facebook page name. It is better to have the proper information to avoid declination of the Request Change.

If you go with a random try, it will not only cause rejection of the request; you have to wait for the next seven days for raising the new Request Change. Hope, this article will help you in getting easy and quick approval of the name change of your Facebook page.
