Jio Fiber- Optical Fiber-Based Internet Access, Plans, Registration, Documents Required and Speed (2020)

Fiber optic networks consist of a really small glass or plastic strands. These strands are about the human hair in width and pieced together into cables. The cables are then used to transmit coded signals in the form of light pulses.

These fiber-optic cables provided the fastest internet experience on offer across the world. Most of the other cabled networks make use of copper wires.

These are nowhere close to fibers in terms of network speed. Fiber-optic lines make use of the binary number system signals. It is the best option open to you in terms of reliable and fast internet connections

The great difference between fibers and copper wire-based internet access is due to the fact that photons travel fast faster than electrons.

Copper wires make use of electrons while fibers use photons. In addition, while traveling across large distances in case of fibers there is minimal signal loss which is referred to as low attenuation.

According to a particular source, the signal loss percentage for 100 meters stands at 3% and 94% for fiber and copper cables respectively. Copper cable attenuation can be pumped up to a certain extent with the help of repeaters and boosters. But fiber optics still holds the trump card in this respect.

Unlike fibers, copper wires create electromagnetic currents that interfere in the proper functioning of other wires on a network. There is also the added disadvantage of coppers being a potential fire hazard.

The last thing to note about fibers is that they don't break with ease, unlike their copper counterparts. This makes replacements few and far in-between.

What is Jio Gigafiber?

Jio Giga Fiber is a service announced amidst much fanfare last year by RIL that makes use of optical fibers.

The public was updated about the developments of this one of a kind project undertaken in India. Initially rolled out by Jio on a trial basis, the service captured the imagination of the Indian public and within a span of 12 months, it has already 15 million registration from as many as 1600 towns.

This is what the Chairman and MD of RIL Mr. Mukesh Ambani revealed to the annual general meeting attendees. By virtue of the overwhelming response to the service, Jio plans to have 20 million residential and 15 million commercial customers across the 1600 towns where the service is set to roll out first.

Now only will the service deliver broadband internet access in speeds of over 1 Gbps but also serve as a platform for providing television services, mixed reality entertainment, gaming and even voice calling based on fixed landlines, Ambani and his team revealed during the meeting.

The Jio Fiber Home Suite

There are also reports that the company has an overarching vision to create a small home suite through the Fiber platform. This network will supposedly consist of smart speakers serving as audio dongles, WiFi extenders, security cameras as well as smart plugs.

The idea is to let users control their homes remotely through a mobile app. The time required to set up such a smartphone according to sources will be as less as a few hours

Jio Giga Fiber Plans

It was in the same AGM meeting that Ambani came out with the biggest announcement for the course of the same meeting, the launch schedule of Jio Fiber when it is all set to go commercial. According to the announcement, Jio is all set to roll out its services on the 5th of September in India.

Way back in last August the company had already started the beta trials of its fiber internet service. With this announcement the company for the first time made it clear about how it intends to stand up against the competition posed by the likes of Airtel, ACT Fibernet, Spectra, etc.

The idea is to provide both speeds as well as volume-based plans for subscribers as the trial plans reveal. Special plans intended for budget users are also on offer. The following table is there for your reference.

During the presentation made by Ambani in the AGM, he revealed that the service will be launched as Jio Fiber and not Reliance Giga Fiber. The change in name reflects the fact that the service would offer broadband plans with speeds that may range from 100 Mbps to 1Gbps.

The plan is to price the optical fiber-based broadband access between the ranges of Rs.700 -Rs.10000 something intended to meet the needs of a diverse clientele.

Considering its Jio its only normal that some kind of super launch offer will be there in order to attract new customers and so will things will be with the Jio Fiber Welcome Offer.

If you choose special annual Jio Fiber plans, then the company is all set to HD or 4K LED TV sets beside a 4K set-top box. However, things are not finalized and little details were revealed.

Reliance Jio GigaFiber Registration

The goal of Jio with its Fiber broadband internet access is to provide WiFi coverage that extends from wall to wall. In order to set up the Jio Fiber Network in your premises, you will need to install a special Jio Fiber router at your office or home.

  • The second option is to fire up your MyJio app and then press the Menu and select Jio Care and finally choose the Track Order option.

Reliance Jio GigaFiber Speed

Jio has long before promised to make sure that even the minimum speed of its broadband internet access is all set to be 1Mbps which will go up all the way to 1Gbps.

Recent surveys have already rated that Jio GigaFiber offers the fastest net connection available in India with speeds of up to 3.61 Mbps as found by the Netflix ISP Speed Index Report.
