What are the top vitamin deficiency symptoms?

1. Brittle hair and nails

Biotin, also known as vitamin B7, is important for the body to convert food into energy. It's also great for strengthening our hair and nails.

2. Bleeding gums

Sometimes, having rough brushing techniques is the root cause of bleeding gums, but a diet lacking in vitamin C can also be to blame. Vitamin C plays an important role in immunity and wound healing.

3. Poor night vision and white growths on the eyes

low intakes of vitamin A are often linked to a condition known as night blindness, which reduces people's ability to see in low light or darkness. Night blindness is caused by a deficiency in rhodopsin; a pigment found in the retina's of your eyes.

4. Scaly patches and dandruff

If you have stubborn dandruff and scaly patches on your scalp, eyebrows, ears, eyelids and chest – you could be lacking in zinc, niacin, riboflavin and pyridoxine. In this case it might help to give these nutrients a boost by adding them to your diet.

5. Restless leg syndrome

Restless leg syndrome (RLS), also known as Willis-Ekbom disease, is a condition caused by an overactive brain that sends mixed signals to the nervous system which in turn sends them to the legs. They can thus experience both prickly sensations and a strong urge to move.
